Tureen - Aesthetics of Early Art Nouveau - Metal...

Elegant and stately tureen (or punch bowl) for the table, a piece that evokes the refinement of the grand dinnerware of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its design combines the sumptuousness of classic French forms, ideal for collectors or for gracing formal tables. -Type of object: Soup Tureen/Punch Bowl with lid. -Origin/School: France (attributable to French silversmithing workshops specializing in high-end tableware for the bourgeoisie). -Period: Historicist Period, with a strong influence and aesthetic of the Belle Époque (late 19th to early 20th century; 1890-1930). -Style: Historicist Eclecticism. The body emulates the sobriety of Neoclassicism and the French Empire style, while the handles adopt the fluidity and appreciation for nature (marine and floral motifs) so characteristic of the Belle Époque and early Art Nouveau. -Material: Metal Silverplated (Brass / Bronze) -Technique: Turned and embossed for the spherical body; cast and chased for the applied ornamental elements (handles, feet, and knob). Final finish: mirror polished. -Marks/Stamp: No seals were found visible to the naked eye. -French Ornamentation and Design: The piece stands out for its carefully considered balance between the clean lines of its structure and the ornate details: *Body and Lid: Large, completely smooth, and bare convex surfaces, designed to reflect ambient light, a highly valued feature in period dining rooms. *Handles and Knob: Three spectacular cast pieces that clearly reflect the Belle Époque influence. They feature a design of seashells (stylized rockwork) embraced by leaf motifs, openwork vegetal scrolls, and small floral details on the fittings. *Legs: Three raised supports adorned with scrolls and organic foliage textures that subtly curve outwards, giving the tureen the elegance of a piece of palace silverware. -Measurements: *Total height (with lid): 19 cm *Height of the body (without lid): 10 cm *Total width (from handle to handle): 33 cm *Diameter of the opening: 24,5 cm *Dimensions of the handles: 7 cm long / 4,5 cm projection. Dimensions of the lid knob: 6,5 cm wide / 5 cm high. Height of the legs: 3 cm -Condition: Good condition with signs of use, patina, or oxidation, consistent with the photos and its age. *Details of age: Shows expected signs of age and use. -Suggestions for Use and Display:* Formal Service: *Exceptional for serving hot soups and broths, or as a punch bowl for cocktails and festive drinks at exclusive celebrations. *High-End Decoration: Due to its origin and style, it is a perfect piece to crown an antique sideboard, display cabinet, or centerpiece, integrating masterfully into Parisian-inspired settings, classic decor, or period interior design projects.
