An impressive large fossil plate containing numerous trilobite specimens, attributed to Redlichia (Pteroredlichia) cf. chinensis, from Hunan Province, China. The slab displays a remarkable assemblage of trilobites of different sizes and orientations naturally distributed across the matrix. Several specimens show well-defined anatomical details, including the segmented thorax, cephalon and pygidium, creating a highly decorative fossil composition. Taxonomic classification: Order: Redlichiida Suborder: Redlichiina Superfamily: Redlichioidea Family: Redlichiidae Subfamily: Redlichiinae Genus: Redlichia (Pteroredlichia) Species: cf. chinensis The specimens originate from the Qingxudong Formation of Hunan Province, China, dating to the Early Cambrian, approximately 520–510 million years ago. Trilobites were among the most successful marine arthropods of the Palaeozoic Era. Redlichia is particularly characteristic of Early Cambrian faunas and represents some of the earliest diversification of complex marine arthropods. What makes this specimen especially attractive is the large number of fossils preserved together on a single plate, with individuals of varying dimensions creating an authentic snapshot of an ancient Cambrian marine ecosystem. The fossil plate is presented vertically on an elegant display stand, included in the lot, making it suitable both for a serious palaeontological collection and as an impressive natural-history display piece. Natural fractures, variations in the matrix and preparation/restoration traces may be present, as commonly found in large fossil plates of this type.
