Trilobite - Fossil carapace - Hollardops Mesocristatus...

In this lot, large-sized trilobites of the species Hollardops Mesocristatus are up for auction. The complete matrix measures 11.7 cm and the trilobite body 7.5 cm. Very good overall preservation, the genal spine and the left eye restored; it is the part of the rock that contacted the exterior, it is natural erosion. It is a large piece, of good size and with a very aesthetic color of the animal in a green hue, with an extended posture, the quality of the right eye practically perfect. It comes from outcrops of the Oufaten Mountain, Tinghir Province (Morocco). The different species of the genus Hollardops lived mainly during the Early Devonian, Emsian age, and their fossils are mainly found in the Maïder and Tafilalt regions of the Anti-Atlas mountains. What also makes the Hollardops genus fascinating for collectors is the variety of species found in Morocco. To identify the different species, special attention should be paid to eye size, the number of lenses, and the shape of the cephalon and pygidium (number of segments, size of spines, etc.). In paleontology, the study of trilobites is a wide and exclusive discipline—“it’s a whole world.” The specimen is accompanied by an L-shaped acrylic display stand as a gift.
