The Porsche 917 was remarkable due to the car’s unique construction. The chassis was made of aluminium, the body of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, and the engine was a so-called 180°-V12 (a combination of two Porsche 911 engines). The Porsche 917 was widely used at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it won in 1970 and 1971. The car also won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1971.
