Traditional Castilian cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th century

Descriptio Carved and assembled wood with wrought iron fittings. An antique farm cart, designed for agricultural transport by animal traction, with an open rectangular frame and large spoked wheels reinforced by metal rims. The piece exhibits a surface heavily eroded by use and environmental exposure, with cracks, open grain, and traces of polychromy that lend chromatic depth and a distinctive visual character. The original hitching mechanisms and metal elements retain natural oxidation, reinforcing the historical authenticity of the piece. The composition demonstrates the practical functionality and structural strength characteristic of 19th-century Spanish vernacular carpentry, where economy of means and construction efficiency defined this type of rural vehicle. The expressiveness of the aged textures, combined with the sculptural nature of the wheels and side rails, makes this piece a remarkable testament to traditional agricultural culture and a prominent decorative art object with a strong theatrical presence.
