Topeng mask, Indonesia, 20th century

Descriptio Carved and polychromed wood. Dimensions: 16 x 8 cm. Small traditional Topeng mask, carved from wood and decorated with polychrome in shades of pink, black, and red. It features an oval face with a serene expression, almond-shaped, half-closed eyes, arched eyebrows, and a slightly smiling mouth—features that reflect the refined and stylized aesthetic characteristic of this type of mask used in theatrical and ceremonial contexts in Indonesia, especially in Java and Bali. The piece stands out for the delicacy of its features, the elegant simplicity of its modeling, and the expressive power concentrated in the frontal view of the face. Mounted on a display base. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
