All auctions / Ethnographic / Tonnidae Collectible Specimen Sea Shell Malea ringens shell – Baja California

Authentic specimen of Malea ringens (Swainson, 1822), belonging to the family Tonnidae, sourced from Baja California, Mexico, a region renowned for the presence of large tropical gastropods. The shell presents a globose and well-balanced morphology, with a moderately elevated spire and a wide final whorl that gives volume and solidity to the whole. The surface is characterized by regular, wide, rounded spiral ridges, creating a continuous rhythmic effect, typical of the species. The growth lines are clearly visible and attest to natural and progressive development. Coloration develops on delicate shades of cream, ivory, and beige, with slight pinkish hues following the contours of the ridges, lending depth and visual harmony. The aperture is wide, with a well-formed outer lip and a smooth, glossy inner surface, with warmer cream-amber tones. The siphonal canal is short and open, in line with the characteristics of the family. With a size of 102.5 mm, this specimen falls into a very interesting range for collectors, being well proportioned and representative of the species. Ideal for shell collectors and for those who wish to add to their collection a specimen belonging to one of the most iconic families among the large marine gastropods. Natural specimen, untreated, in good overall condition.
