Tom Roy - DANZA IV

Tom Roy - DANZA IV

DANZA IV — TOM ROY (2023) Original painting | Acrylic on canvas | Expressive figurative art | 60 × 60 cm when mounted | Unique work Freedom does not consist in following the movement, but in daring to create your own. There are bodies that dance to a rhythm, and others that seem to invent their own rules. Danza IV is an original painting by Spanish contemporary artist Tom Roy, part of his Danza series, where the human body becomes a powerful metaphor for freedom, determination, and personal overcoming. The work presents a female figure with deliberately exaggerated anatomy, suspended in a contemporary dance pose that combines strength, sensuality, and balance. Her body folds in on itself while her arms extend in opposite directions, drawing curved lines that traverse the composition. Bent legs, oversized feet, and the torsion of the torso generate a sense of continuous movement, as if the protagonist were suspended in the air during an impossible choreography. The hands and feet of exaggerated proportions, defined muscles, and seemingly unnatual postures are characteristic elements of Tom Roy's artistic language. Her face, partially hidden by hair, conveys concentration and introspection, while the position of her arms and hands introduces a sense of absolute freedom. A woman who does not need to follow any imposed rhythm, because she has learned to find her own. Composition, technique and expression Created in acrylic on canvas, Danza IV presents a dynamic composition in which a female figure in grayscale tones contrasts with a luminous blue background. The painterly treatment of the body combines expressive brushstrokes, gestural lines, shading, and light contrasts that accentuate volume, musculature, and the tension of each movement. The visible black strokes over the skin and cross-hatching shading add depth and spontaneity, reinforcing the painting's expressionist character. The blue background creates an open, luminous atmosphere that seems to liberate the figure from any conventional spatial reference. At the bottom, a coral and salmon-pink surface, traversed by light lines converging in perspective, introduces an interesting geometric component. These lines generate depth and movement, evoking an abstract stage on which the protagonist seems to defy the laws of gravity. The combination of luminous blue, coral tones, and the monochromatic figure creates a fresh, contemporary chromatic contrast with strong visual impact. The composition fuses figurative expressionism with graphic elements inspired by pop art, resulting in a work of art recognizable for its personality and dynamism. Beyond its aesthetic dimension, Danza IV invites reflection on the importance of finding our own path, abandoning others' expectations, and trusting in our ability to surpass established limits. The protagonist does not seem concerned with achieving a perfect position. Her movement is free, spontaneous, and deeply personal. Because true freedom begins when we stop trying to fit in and start moving in our own way. A piece ideal for contemporary interiors Thanks to its combination of luminous colors, dynamic composition, and square format, Danza IV is especially attractive for different environments: Contemporary and minimalist interiors: the blue background and coral tones bring freshness, contrast, and personality to spaces with clean lines. Japandi interiors: the monochrome figure and the simplicity of the background establish an interesting dialogue with light woods, natural stone, linen, and neutral-toned furniture. Modern living rooms: a piece that brings energy, movement, and originality, becoming an attractive focal point. Contemporary bedrooms: its blues and coral tones create a balanced combination of serenity, warmth, and artistic expression. D Studios and creative offices: especially suitable for spaces where imagination, independence, and freedom of thought are sought. Boutique hotels and interior design projects: ideal for environments that want to incorporate original art with visual identity and emotional narrative. Contemporary figurative art collections: especially interesting for collectors drawn to expressionism, the representation of the human body, and movement-inspired compositions. Its recommended square format of 60 × 60 cm allows it to be enjoyed as a single piece or combined with other paintings from the Danza series. Especially interesting is its combination with Danza III, with which it shares a blue background and a monochromatic figure, while its different compositions and chromatic treatments generate a visually powerful artistic dialogue.
