"Tokyo Kinkou Hakkei; Gyotoku Imaibashi no Shinshu"...

Original woodblock print - Paper - Kasamatsu Shiro (1898-1991) - "Tokyo Kinkou Hakkei; Gyotoku Imaibashi no Shinshu" (Imaibashi in Late Autumn) - Japan - Showa period (1926 - 1989) The first edition of this design was published in 1939. The current print is an early but not first edition from before 1957. The measurements of the image itself (excluding the margins) are 24.5 x 36.3 cm. Publisher: Watanabe Shiro Kasamatsu (1898–1981) studied arts under Kaburagi Kiyokata. He designed his first woodblock prints for Watanabe Shozaburo in 1919, after the publisher had seen his work at an exhibition. He designed Shin-hanga prints for Watanabe for a long period, and gained fame with his romantic landscapes and depictions of traditional Japanese life. Between 1952 and 1960 he also created over 100 woodblock print designs for the Kyoto publisher Unsodo. Shiro Kasamatsu is generally regarded as one of the top Shin-hanga woodblock print artists in Japan. The print is in fair condition, with the image itself still relatively good. There are two pinholes in the upper margin. There is a fold in the upper right corner, from the upper and right margin through the image. There is a fold in the middle of the left margin. The paper has browned, especially visible on the back, but also mildly visible in the image itself. Will be shipped with great care in sturdy packaging to prevent folding.
