No other German city is as closely associated with jewellery making as Pforzheim. The history of the city’s jewellery industry dates back to 1767, when Margrave Karl Friedrich of Baden had a workshop for watches and fine steelware established in the city’s orphanage. The orphanage was located in the buildings of a former Dominican convent, and jewellery production was soon added to its operations. From these humble beginnings, a widely diversified jewellery industry developed over the course of the 19th century, earning Pforzheim the nickname “Goldstadt” (City of Gold), which is still in use today. This bracelet was crafted around 1980 and is a beautiful example of Pforzheim’s artisanal production. It is made of 14-karat yellow gold and features a classic flat-link pattern. The wide, highly polished links are flexibly connected to one another, forming a tightly closed band. Despite its solid construction, the bracelet nestles softly around the wrist. A sturdy box clasp and two side safety clasps ensure a secure fit. The bracelet is in very good condition and came to us here in Berlin. It originates from the Louis Fiessler company in Pforzheim, founded as early as 1857, as its hallmark reveals.
