Tibet Tibetan silver plated / rock crystal Ornately...

This object is a ritual Tibetan seal (stamp) made of quartz crystal, metal, and adorned with various beads. Seals like this were traditionally used in ancient Tibet by monasteries, high-ranking lamas, or noble families to authenticate official documents, letters and sacred texts. The lower, transparent portion is made from a raw-point quartz crystal (often called Tibetan quartz). The underside of this crystal contains the actual carved seal impression. The top and base are housed in intricately worked metal fittings (silver alloy) with traditional Buddhist patterns and scrollwork. Star-shaped top: The metal crown has the striking shape of a five-pointed star with floral or astral relief embellishments. Bead necklace (Mala-style): Attached to the object is a decorative braided cord fitted with traditional Himalayan beads, including red coral imitations, green turquoise beads and beads of bone or stone. This served both as decoration and to wear the seal. Carefully packed and insured for shipping.
