Theodolite - équerre d’arpenteur XL pivotant - 1880-1900 - France - Ancien

Superb antique brass theodolite / surveyor's square, dating from the late 19th century or the very early 20th century (around 1880–1900). This surveying instrument was used by surveyors and engineers to lay out or check right angles on the ground, before the widespread use of modern optical theodolites. The cylindrical body features several 90° sighting slots and a circular scale engraved at its base. The upper part is pivoting, allowing precise adjustment of the sight direction.
