'The Three Graces' Oil On Canvas Painting. 36" x 48" Ellie Shafiei (Iranian- American. b 1987). MFA Candidate, New York Academy of Art, Class of 2026. Ellie Shafiei is a multimedia artist, oil painter, photographer, and printmaker. Ellie Shafiei: "One artwork that caught my eye was 'The Three Graces' by Botticelli. I took this classic piece and reimagined it in a modern way. In Botticelli's version ( 15th century, renaissanceart) , the Three Graces?Aglaea, Euphrosyne, and Thalia?are depicted as beautiful maidens, dancing together in a lush garden filled with symbolic flowers and trees. The painting is renowned for its elegant lines, harmonious colors, and captivating sense of movement. As I studied this masterpiece, I was struck by the way Botticelli balanced realism with idealism, creating a sense of timeless beauty that continues to inspire artists to this day. For my own piece, I took the essence of Botticelli's Three Graces and reimagined them in a contemporary context. I wanted to capture the same sense of elegance and harmony while infusing the painting with a modern twist. The result is a unique blend of old and new, paying homage to the artistic traditions of the past while forging a path forward into the future".
