The Stranglers - The Raven (UK) – 1979 1st Pressing –...

Original 1979 UK first pressing of The Stranglers' The Raven on United Artists Records (UAG 30262). This copy is distinguished by the inclusion of the original withdrawn inner sleeve, featuring the controversial cartoon image of Joh Bjelke-Petersen alongside Australian map artwork. This image was removed from later inner sleeves due to its political sensitivity, making the uncensored version a key collector variation. The Raven stands as one of The Stranglers' defining late-1970s statements, blending punk energy with new wave sophistication and experimental textures. The album showcases the band's creative range across standout tracks including "Duchess," "Nuclear Device," "Don't Bring Harry," "Shah Shah A Go Go" and the haunting title track. ⸻ Sleeve (EX): The original sleeve remains extremely clean and attractive overall. Some tape residue is present, which prevents a higher grade, but otherwise the sleeve shows very little significant wear. The presentation is strong and well preserved. Inner Sleeve: Original withdrawn inner sleeve included, featuring the uncensored Joh Bjelke-Petersen cartoon and Australian map artwork. Vinyl (NM): A superb copy with beautiful original gloss and very little evidence of previous play. The vinyl presents exceptionally cleanly throughout, grading a strong Near Mint example. ⸻ Details * UK first pressing, 1979 * United Artists Records UAG 30262 * Original withdrawn inner sleeve (uncensored Joh Bjelke-Petersen version)
