The Bullfighter, Signed Romero Resendi, Spanish School, 20th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Canvas measurements: 100 x 81cm, framed measurements: 112 x 92 cm. The scene portrays a young bullfighter inside a room, holding his bullfighting jacket with a proud and confident air. His relaxed posture, smiling expression, and warm lighting highlight the character’s humanity, far removed from the traditional epic nature of the bullring. Romero Resendi employs firm, vibrant brushstrokes, with rich chromaticism that oscillates between reddish, green, and gold tones, giving the painted surface a tactile and expressive effect. The composition, balanced between realism and theatricality, pays homage to the popular Spanish figure with an energetic and emotional visual language. The legacy of 20th-century costumbrismo (costumbism) is evident in his style, where the portrait becomes a vehicle of cultural identity and national pride. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
