Head Arthur Ashe Competition racket, probably used by the player between 1969 and 1973. Match or tournament unknown. The first signature model developed by HEAD in collaboration with Arthur Ashe, this racket marks a major milestone in the transition from wooden frames to the first generations of composite rackets. It is the model that Arthur Ashe used in the early 1970s. Strung with Ashaway USA strings. This racket was donated by the player and comes from the personal collection of Michel Mattei, director, screenwriter and producer of the documentaries *The Rites of Passage: The John McEnroe Story* (1981) and *The Pat Cash Story: No Second Prize* (1987). A tennis enthusiast, over several decades he has built up an exceptional collection of more than 1,500 rackets, thanks to his close ties with many of the sport’s legends, notably John McEnroe and Pat Cash.
