Tazewell, Tennessee. Bank of Tazewell. 1854 $50. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20 Apparent. Mounting Remnants on Back. No. 122. Plate A. Last sold in 2016, this note was recognized then as "one of the rarest banks from the state" and ultimately realized $2,820 by the time bidding had concluded. Here bidders are nonetheless met with even circulation and a sight reminiscent of the notes issued by the Murfreesboro-based branch of the Exchange Bank of Tennessee thanks to the vignette at right depicting the Tennessee State Capitol Building in Nashville as envisioned before its completion in 1859. Distinct penned elements are also retained alongside excellent color for the grade assigned which should rightfully be secondary to the discerning specialist of Tennessee numismatic material. PCGS Currency comments "Mounting Remnants on Back." Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Earlier ex. Eric P. Newman Collection.
