Taxidermy: A Wall Cased Display of Canaries and Long-tailed Paradise Whydah, early 20th century, by Thorpe & Crump Ltd, Taxidermist & Furrier, 22 George Street, Croydon, Taxidermy: A Wall Cased Display of Canaries and Long-tailed Paradise Whydah, early 20th century, by Thorpe & Crump Ltd, Taxidermist & Furrier, 22 George Street, Croydon, a period display containing various aberations of Canary, and a Long-tailed paradise whydah bird, all mounted upon a simple hanging branch, set against a wash painted backdrop, enclosed within a five-glass wall-hanging display case, 33cm by 13.5cm by 44cm excluding outer frame, partial trade label to verso. The company of Thorpe & Crump shared the work address of Charles Thorpe, a prominent taxidermist working from George street, Croydon, in the latter part of the 19th century into the Edwardian period, this example must be a late example of work while working with Clarence Aylward Crump, the company later transitioned to include high quality furrier work in the mid-20th century
