Tavern interior. Signed Carlos Vázquez. Spanish School. 20th century.

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 54 x 46 cm and 65 x 56 cm. A genre scene set inside a tavern, featuring a counter manned by a mustachioed man, while several male and female figures interact amidst the shadows. In the foreground, a seated child introduces a note of vulnerability and social realism. The atmosphere is warm, filled with shadows and texture, with loose but precise brushwork, capable of suggesting volume and atmosphere with scarce resources. A pink curtain on the right adds theatricality and depth. The signature "C. Vázquez" corresponds to the artist Carlos Vázquez Úbeda, renowned for his costumbrista scenes and portraits of everyday life. This work is part of early 20th-century Spanish social painting, where direct observation and empathy with the urban environment were essential. Its value lies both in its technical mastery and its compassionate gaze on the working class. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist.
