Excellent fine pewter tankard from a German workshop in the Nuremberg region, dated between 1875 and 1900. The piece bears the famous armored knight hallmark (Rittermarke), a purity guarantee stamp for pewter used by German pewter masters in the 19th century. The initials L H identify Ludwig Henne’s workshop, an artisan active in Nuremberg at the end of the 19th century. Poinçons & authenticity Under the base, three clearly visible stamps: • Armored knight: quality stamp certifying fine pewter (95–98%). • Initials L H: master pewterer’s signature. • Additional decorative marks (flower, clover), typical of German workshops of the period. These markings confirm authentic production, not a modern reproduction. Description of the piece Tankard with a domed lid and spherical knob, solid hinge and cylindrical body with horizontal mouldings. Typical style of late 19th-century German tavern mugs. • Material: fine pewter, patina of the era. • Height: approx. 17 cm. • Weight: consistent with artisanal productions of the period. • Color: silvery gray with an even patina.
