Table - Italian Mid-Century Dining Table – Green Onyx an...

An elegant and substantial Italian Mid-Century dining or centre table, dating to approximately the 1950s, distinguished by its richly veined green onyx tabletop and architectural fluted wooden pedestal. The generously proportioned oval tabletop is fashioned from polished natural green onyx, displaying remarkable translucent mineral formations in shades of olive green, sage, ivory and cream, intersected by delicate reddish and amber-coloured veins. The table is supported by a particularly sculptural central wooden pedestal, meticulously worked with continuous vertical fluting. Its elegant trumpet-shaped silhouette narrows at the centre before expanding gracefully towards the floor, terminating in a circular polished green onyx base that complements the tabletop. The combination of finely worked wood, richly patterned natural stone and a distinctive architectural silhouette reflects the refined craftsmanship and luxurious material contrasts characteristic of Italian furniture design during the mid-twentieth century. The design displays stylistic affinities with the Italian decorative furniture tradition of the 1940s and 1950s, particularly the sculptural pedestal tables produced by leading Italian cabinetmaking workshops of the period. Dimensions: Length: 134 cm Width: 100 cm Height: 77 cm Clearance beneath tabletop: 74 cm Materials: Natural green onyx, carved and finished wood. Period: Mid-20th century, circa 1950s (attributed dating). Origin: Presumed Italian manufacture. Condition: Vintage condition with signs of age and use. The polished onyx tabletop retains its attractive natural veining and displays some small chips and minor losses along the edges, as illustrated in the detailed photographs. Natural veining and fissures are also visible in the stone. The wooden pedestal shows surface wear and a visible split or open joint in the upper fluted section, as documented in the photographs. Please examine all photographs carefully, particularly the detailed condition images, which form an integral part of the description. A striking example of mid-century decorative furniture, combining the natural beauty of green onyx with an elegantly sculpted wooden support.
