TYRANNOSAURUS REX Dentes premaxillari – Lance Formation, Wyoming, USA 6 cm or 2.35 inches Late Cretaceous | Maastrichtian | about 68–66 million years ago An authentic fragment of prehistory belonging to one of the most famous predators in Earth's history: Tyrannosaurus rex. Hailing from the Lance Formation of Wyoming, one of the most iconic and important places in the world for fossil documentation of the last millions of years of the North American Cretaceous, this tooth represents an exceptional collectible for paleontology, dinosaurs, and natural history enthusiasts. The robust and distinctive morphology of the T. rex maxillary premolar tooth testifies to the incredible specialization of the skull of this gigantic tyrannosaurid. These teeth occupied the front part of the upper jaw and stood out for their particular sturdiness, an integral part of the predatory apparatus of one of the largest terrestrial carnivores known. The Lance Formation is famous for preserving an incredible Maastrichtian terminal faunal community, offering an extraordinary window into the ecosystem that preceded the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous. It is precisely from these ancient Wyoming sediments that some of the most important Tyrannosaurus rex remains ever studied come from.
