Absolutely Sublime "Dragon in the Clouds" Pattern Dollar in Reverse Formation (t) CHINA. Silver "Reversed Dragon" Dollar Pattern, Year 3 (1911). Tientsin Mint. Hsuan-t'ung (Xuantong [Puyi]). NGC MS-66. L&M-31; K-225; KM-Pn308; WS-0042A; Wenchao-115 (rarity: ★★★). Type II; variety with raised veins in outer leaves. Simply stunning to behold, this thoroughly resounding and glistening late imperial RARITY features the overall style of dragon that would eventually appear on the circulation strikes, but in a coiled pattern reversed to what would see usage. Here, the dragon is coiled in a "C"-like pattern and with a tail that seemingly disappears into the clouds. The strike is abundantly alluring and attractive, with crispness and expert precise applied everywhere. Almost entirely argent, it is largely without color, though some subtle burnished golden notes pepper portions of the peripheries elevating its captivating character that much more.
