SWEDEN. The King's 14th Birthday Restrike Silver Medal, 1669. Karl XI. NGC MS-63. Hild-27; Kold-8; Delzanno-36a; Bruun-17564. Diameter: 49 mm. Weight: 62 gms. By Anton Meybusch (M?). 19th century(?) restrike of this very rare and enigmatic medal struck with concave dies. Celebrating the king's 15th birthday in 1669 when we was born in 1655 must mean they counted his birth as his first birthday. The dies to this medal are still kept in Stockholm and are illustrated in Karsten Kold's book on Meybusch, pg. 45, where the reverse die cracks are evident. However, the obverse die also has a large crack, which this medal does not have. Meybusch's initial 'M' may be hidden in plain sight at the center of the thurible. Estimate: €2,000 - €3,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Royal Swedish Coin Cabinet Duplicates Sale (Stockholm - 1895) Lot # 633. To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E.
