Equatorial Dial with Dollond London Compass in Brass – Blue Velvet Case – 1980s Elegant and refined collectible instrument composed of a sundial with compass, made of brass and accompanied by its blue velvet case. A small object of great charm, capable of uniting in a single elegant composition two ancient instruments linked to navigation, orientation, and time measurement. The design recalls the tradition of prestigious scientific and nautical instruments and presents a strong scenic character despite its extremely compact size. The sundial with compass is an object particularly interesting for collectors of scientific, nautical, and astronomical instruments. The presence of the compass allows proper orientation of the instrument while the sundial uses the position of the Sun to indicate the time. The operating principle is that of ancient sundials: a small rod or gnomon projects its shadow onto the dial, and when the instrument is correctly oriented toward the North, the shadow allows reading the solar time indicated by the inscriptions on the dial. The compass thus plays a fundamental role in orienting the sundial, making this small instrument not only decorative but also an interesting example of a blend between astronomy, navigation, and time measurement. Main features Type: sundial with compass Material: brass Brand: Dollond London Era: 1980s Function: perfectly functional Case: blue velvet Closed dimensions: diameter approximately 5 cm, height approximately 2 cm Conditions The instrument is presented in excellent overall condition and is perfectly functional. Normal light signs of wear consistent with the era and the vintage nature of the object are present. The blue velvet case elegantly completes the presentation and facilitates storage. Notes Object of notable collecting interest due to its small size, the combination of compass and sundial, and the prestigious Dollond London appeal. Particularly dramatic when displayed with other vintage nautical, scientific, or astronomical instruments. Thanks to its size, it can be easily placed on a desk, a bookshelf, a display case, or within a collection dedicated to the history of navigation. A small object with great charm, ideal for collectors and enthusiasts of antique nautical instruments, astronomy, exploration, and vintage scientific items. Shipping Very careful packing and trackable shipping. Note THE ITEMS WILL BE SHIPPED AFTER 31/08 DUE TO HOLIDAYS. THANKS.
