Subprefecture of ROANNE (Loire). 1870 “THE GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENSE (Ad. Crémieux, Al. Glais-Bizoin, L. Fourichon) to the Voters.” “Telegraphic dispatch, Circular from TOURS. … Today we say: Let us preserve the Republic; it is the only government that can unite us against the foreign power that defiles and ravages our land…. Republicans of yesterday, Republicans of tomorrow by force of circumstance, friends of fallen dynasties—let us therefore unite to call upon the most enlightened members of our municipal councils, the most independent, and the most determined to uphold the Republic—a guarantee both of unity among all and of our country’s liberation.”—Printed in Roanne, by Marion and Vignal, Place de l’Hôtel de Ville.
