Anasazi, Jeddito, Southwestern Pre-Historic Pottery. Native American, North America, Arizona, Antelope Mesa, Jeddito, ca. 1325 to 1600 CE. A steep-walled ceramic bowl with symbolic decorations painted in pre-meditated black strokes against a creamy yellow orange surface. The wide interior of the vessel displays an esoteric design repeated twice inversely across its basin. This abstract illustration is encircled by a thick line across the upper register the bowls tondo. The exterior features what perhaps could be interpreted as two Hopi symbols for a plumed headdress, also in black with a slight color gradience. Jeddito yellow ware is a form of Anasazi Pueblo pottery known for fine form, deep golden tones, and finely executed designs. Per customary practices, this bowl was made by a woman, mostly likely on Antelope Mesa and Third Mesa in Hopi land. Item # 205596
