Statue, Antieke Corpus Christi - 34.5 cm - Wood

Beautiful antique hand-carved wooden Corpus Christi (a Christ’s torso), probably made from a hardwood such as walnut or boxwood. Placed on a beautiful stone base. The surface shows a deep, warm patina that has developed over the centuries through age and handling. With this type of early sculpture, the arms were often carved from separate pieces of wood and attached to the torso with wooden pins. The fact that the arms here are smoothly broken off at the base is typical for corpora that have withstood the passage of time and were later placed as a solitary work of art on a modern marble base. Dimensions: listed with the photos Condition: excellent condition, small old woodworm holes. The back side has probably been glued in the past. Photos are part of the description. These were taken under artificial light; color may differ. Mood impressions are shown. It will be well packed and sent by registered mail. Jiljes, where quality and service come first!
