Spiny star snail: Astraea spec

An absolute jewel for lovers of geometrically spectacular deep-sea gastropods. This Astraea spec. (among experts often attributed to the form Astraea erectospinosa / Bolma) belongs to the family of Turban snails (Turbinidae). It captivates with its flat, circular geometry and the prominent, upright, precisely projecting spines along the whorls. With an excellent collector size of 39 mm, this piece perfectly captures the delicate, almost gear-like architecture of nature. The underside shows the characteristic, well-formed center of this rarely offered genus. Origin This authentic collectible piece comes from the famous marine depths of Panglao, Bohol (Philippines). The Panglao region is worldwide known through scientific expeditions for its unique, extremely high biodiversity of marine mollusks.
