Spinel & Obsidian - Saint Benedict Medal - Spiritual...

Spinel & Obsidian – Benedictine Necklace - Saint Benedict Medal - Spiritual combat against evil - Shadow and Light Benedictine necklace with a composed character of spinel and obsidian, pairing the depth of black with the warm glow of golden elements. The necklace features 92 smooth, round obsidian beads interspersed with 16 finely faceted round spinel beads. Their larger size and multi-faceted surface catch the light with subtle reflections. Ornate golden elements punctuate the composition, creating a strong contrast with the deep black of the stones and underscoring the solemn character of the necklace. At its center sits a imposing rectangular pendant of devotion to Saint Benedict, richly worked in relief in a beautiful golden tone. The upper part depicts Saint Benedict with a halo, portrayed according to his traditional iconography. He holds the cross, a symbol of the Christian faith and the victory of Christ, as well as a book evoking his Rule (monastic rule), the foundation of the Benedictine tradition. In the foreground unfolds a large representation of the Saint Benedict Medal, recognizable by its central cross and symbolic inscriptions. In Christian tradition, this medal is associated with faith, prayer, spiritual protection, and rejection of evil. The pendant presents a particularly rich decor: textured background, relief motifs, finely ornate border, cross, the saint’s figure, a book, and the Benedictine medal compose a dense ensemble recalling the aesthetics of a small religious icon. The combination of deep obsidian black and spinel with the golden glow of the pendant gives it a presence that is at once sober, powerful, and solemn. A jewelry box case and a protective pouch will be included. Handcrafted with care - One of a kind To know, Saint Benedict is one of the great figures of Western Christian monasticism. His medal carries symbolism deeply tied to the Cross of Christ, to faith, to prayer, and to spiritual warfare against evil. The cross depicted at the heart of the medal recalls the formula traditionally associated with Saint Benedict: “Let Holy Cross be my light,” giving the piece a strong sense of devotion and spiritual protection. The choice of black obsidian and black spinel takes on a special dimension here, accompanying the figure of Saint Benedict. Black traditionally evokes the Benedictine monastic habit, a symbol of sobriety, humility, renunciation of earthly vanities, and consecration to spiritual life. Black obsidian, in symbolic traditions related to stones, is associated with protection, grounding, and repelling negative influences. Its deep darkness also evokes introspection and the search for inner truth. Black spinel is traditionally associated with inner strength, stability, and protection. Its luster, revealed here by a finely faceted cut, brings a notion of light arising from darkness. The pairing of these two black stones with the Saint Benedict Medal thus creates a particularly coherent composition: black evokes monastic life and contemplation, while the cross and medal refer to faith, prayer, and spiritual warfare against evil. The contrast between the black stones and the golden elements further reinforces the religious dimension of the piece: shadow and light, contemplation and faith, monastic sobriety and the radiance of the sacred.
