Title: The Worker ㅤ School: European Fauvist School (20th century) ㅤ Style: Figurative Fauvism ㅤ Technique: Oil on panel ㅤ Condition: Generally good conservation state, with signs of age and wear typical of the passage of time. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is inscribed in the European figurative tradition rooted in Fauvism and Post-Impressionism developed during the first decades of the 20th century. The use of visible brushstrokes, the simplification of volumes and the expressive use of color show affinities with currents that gradually moved away from academic representation. The treatment of the face, built with ochre, greenish, bluish and orange tones, also suggests a certain influence of European expressionist portraiture, where color has a psychological function as well as descriptive. ㅤ Male portrait of pronounced psychological character depicting an elderly man, shown half-length and slightly leaning forward. The subject wears round glasses, a mustache and a gray beard, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a beret. His downward gaze and gathered posture convey concentration, introspection, and a sense of everyday life tied to the world of work. ㅤ The composition concentrates all attention on the figure with a dark and virtually neutral background. Lighting falls especially on the face and glasses, while the loose brushwork and chromatic contrasts model the features without resorting to an overly detailed finish. Warm reflections on the skin stand out against the greens, grays and blues used in the shadow areas, a device characteristic of a modern and expressive interpretation of portraiture. ㅤ The work is presented with an elaborately carved dark wood frame, decorated with golden vegetal motifs and geometric reliefs. An inner golden moulding delineates the painting and creates a strong contrast with the dark tone of the piece. The frame shows signs of age and wear consistent with its decorative character. ㅤ Observations: The work may incur damage during transport even when properly packaged. In such case, we will require photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority. ㅤ Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an extra charge for reasons such as being outside a continental territory, exceeding dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not be responsible for this surcharge. ㅤ The courier that must pass through the Swiss border can be delayed well beyond normal, so, if possible, to speed up processing we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so the customer can release it and thus reach its destination.
