Smiths Sectric 'Synchronous Electric Radio Preset Clock I' in the original box, circa 1940s, with an Arabic numeral dial in a Bakelite case, powered by a self-starting 220 volt AC synchronous motor, providing accurate timekeeping derived from the frequency of the mains electricity supply, 5.25" high, 7" wide ** Designed as a clock-operated radio time switch, the ON and OFF switching times are independently programmed using two rear-mounted control knobs, enabling an attached radio receiver to be automatically switched on and off at predetermined times. A manual/auto selector switch mounted on the side of the case provides override of the timed programme, allowing the connected radio to be operated independently of the preset switching cycle ** From the David Read Collection
