Pre-Columbian, Central Coast of Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A small mold-formed pottery figure shown with arms raised in a gesture of reverence, wearing a diminutive sling pack across the shoulders, with a hollow body pierced beneath the arms that may have functioned as a rattle, for firing purposes, or even as suspension holes. Accompanied by a red chert stone tool, knapped and flaked in a manner reminiscent of much earlier Neolithic technologies, though its precise origin remains undetermined. The stone displays a smooth, sand-blasted patina evocative of long exposure in an arid environment, visually recalling desert-worn lithics from North Africa. Size of figure: 2.75" W x 4" H (7 cm x 10.2 cm) Item # 198821
