Product Description & Scientific Data Scientific name: Siratus alabaster (Reeve, 1845) – formerly Murex alabaster. Common name: Alabaster snail (Eng. Alabaster Murex). Quality level: GEM (Absolutely flawless. The paper-thin, winged ribs and spines that are so characteristic for this species are completely undamaged and perfectly intact). Size: 80 mm (8.0 cm). This is an excellent, fully grown standard size for this graceful species. (Larger specimens can reach up to 150 mm, but are usually noticeably bulkier). Morphology: The shell captivates with its pure, porcelain-like alabaster white and the extremely graceful, curved wing structures (webbed wings) that resemble tropical petals. Family: Muricidae (spiny snails). Origin & Habitat Geographic origin: Cebu, Philippines (Indo-Pacific). Habitat: A true deep-water species. These animals live in the deeper benthos on mud and sand bottoms at spectacular depths of typically 200 to over 500 meters.
