Adriano Tolomei – BBB Italia – “Baba Sintesi” Swivel Armchair – Italian Design, 1970s/1980s Beautiful swivel armchair model “Baba Sintesi”, designed by Adriano Tolomei for BBB Italia, a significant expression of the plastic and formal research of late 20th-century Italian design. Made of rotationally molded polypropylene, the monoblock shell stands out for a continuous and fluid silhouette, where seat, backrest and armrests merge into a single organic form. The result is a piece with strong sculptural impact, capable of combining ergonomics and aesthetic presence with great balance. The rear opening defines the rhythm of the structure, visually lightening the volume and emphasizing its dynamic tension, in line with the Italian space-age and postmodern design language of the 1970s/1980s. The central metal base features a gas-lift column with height adjustment and swivel function, ensuring comfort and versatility, making the armchair suitable for both sophisticated domestic interiors and professional or creative environments. An authentic piece, increasingly sought after, reflecting a period of great material and design experimentation in Italian design, now appreciated by collectors and interior designers. Condition In good overall condition, with patina consistent with age and use. Surface signs on the shell and metal base that do not affect stability or functionality. Structurally sound, with fully working mechanism. Approximate dimensions Height: approx. 90 cm (adjustable) Width: approx. 60 cm Depth: approx. 70 cm Marks and authenticity Original mark present under the seat: “Sintesi – Design Adriano Tolomei – Made in Italy” Produced by BBB Italia, a company active in promoting innovative Italian design, the “Baba Sintesi” embodies a design vision where plastic becomes a primary expressive medium. A piece with strong aesthetic presence, ideal for contemporary environments, design collections or sophisticated interiors, and for those seeking iconic pieces with character and visual authority.
