Wax doll on Victorian composition (c. 1870-1880) - With magnificent 3-layer original christening outfit ★ Detailed description Exceptional antique collection doll from the late 19th century (Victorian/Edwardian era), approximately 30 cm in length (not counting the gown extension). This is a piece of great historical value, ideal for collectors of antique toys and period textiles. → Head and limbs: Made with the prized wax-over-composition technique. The arms and legs remain completely intact, with all fingers on hands and feet present, something exceedingly rare in wax pieces of this age. The head shows the patina, craquelure, and darkening characteristic of the passage of time and the natural reactions of wax, which certify its authenticity of more than 140 years. → Body: Original cloth body with soft stuffing (cotton/wadding). → An exceptional historic textile outfit in 3 layers: The standout of this lot is that it preserves its original multi-layer christening wardrobe, complete and in a textile conservation state very difficult to find: First layer (Interior): Old pantaloon-like pants/knickers sewn in authentic period linen, secured with their original ties. Second layer (Intermediate): Thick yellowish cotton petticoat, ornamented with delicate raised floral embroidery and a hand-made scalloped edge. Third layer (Exterior): Spectacular and very long christening gown/skirt in fine lawn or gauze, decorated with elaborate period lace at cuffs, neck, and hem. Includes its matching lace bonnet protecting the head. The rear closure still has its original mother-of-pearl/bone button. A magnificent 3-layer original christening outfit: The masterpiece of this lot is its fully complete, multi-layered original textile set: Inner layer: * Antique linen pantalettes (pololos) with original tie strings. * Middle layer: A thick yellowish cotton petticoat, beautifully detailed with hand-embroidered floral patterns and a scalloped hem. * Outer layer: A spectacular, extra-long Victorian christening gown made of fine lawn/gaze fabric, embellished with exquisite period lace on the cuffs, collar, and hem. It includes the matching lace bonnet. The back features its original bone/mother-of-pearl button. A wonderful, untouched collector's item with a rare textile survival rate.
