Author signed and inscribed presentation copy. Poulton, Edward Bagnall John Viriamu Jones and Other Oxford Memories. 1911 Publisher: London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1911 8vo [9 x 6 inches] 339pp. [English] Very Good A reflective memoir by Edward Bagnall Poulton, Hope Professor of Zoology at Oxford and a leading figure in the defense of Darwinian evolution, centered on the life and character of John Viriamu Jones, the Welsh physicist and educational reformer. The work expands beyond Jones to offer a series of personal recollections and observations on Oxford intellectual life in the late nineteenth century, touching on academic culture, scientific personalities, and the atmosphere of the university during a formative period. Written for an educated general audience rather than as a technical scientific text, the book combines biography, institutional history, and personal memory. Illustrated throughout. Bound in the original light green cloth with titles to the spine. Illustrated with plates and in-text illustrations. It is in Very Good condition. Light fading to the spine, some shelf wear, and bumped corners. Interior with scattered pencil annotations in places, otherwise the pages remain mostly clean. Signed and inscribed by the author on the half title: âCanterbury Sands, from his old friend, the author. June 11th 1912. Oxford.â The name David John Evans is written on the title page in a different ink and hand, likely as an ownership inscription. 8vo [9 x 6 inches].339pp. [English] Very Good.Bound in the original light green cloth with titles to the spine.
