Swiftly receding into memory are the days of strong, earnest men who followed an atavistic yearning to pit their skills against wild animals. Some of us have been lucky enough to briefly glimpse or share a campfire with those living anachronisms in buckskin coats with handmade bows and gale-burned faces. Glenn St. Charles is one of them. In this book, Glenn speaks of those bygone days. You will wander on bow hunting journeys through raw and lonely lands on man's greatest quest; bow hunting the beautiful, cunning and sometimes dangerous big game animals of North America, with a bow. You will also learn of the history of this quest; of the great and near great who have taken the last trail but who left their moccasin prints for us to follow. This book is a compilation, not of mere words, but a reverent conveyance of inborn knowledge coupled with the unfathomable joy of archery." [from the Foreword by Billy Ellis] " My close personal relationship with Glenn began in 1962, when we attended a meeting of the minds at Bear Archery Company in Grayling, Michigan. Founding the Pope and Young Club was no doubt Glenn's greatest challenge. It became apparent in the early 50s that bow hunting would need credibility in the eyes of the public to survive. He almost single-handedly took on the doubters, the likes of the Humane Society and the gun hunting clan, who constantly badgered our wildlife agencies to get rid of us before we got any kind of A foothold. With the advent of the Pope and Young Club and their trophy lists, the DNR had the proof needed to put to rest any doubts that they and the public had. Glenn was awarded NFAAs highest award, the Compton Medal of Honor, in 1958. He became a member of the prestigious Boone and Crockett Club in 1980. The 30th anniversary of the Pope and Young Club in Seattle Washington, 1991, saw Glenn inducted into the Archery Hall of Fame and presented with Pope and Young Club's most prestigious Ishi Award thus taking his rightful place in history among the other giants of our archery tradition." [from the Foreword by Richard Mauch]
