Side table - sewing box - Wood - Table of Lira

Exceptional Italian lyre-table, a piece of notable historical and artistic interest that embodies the Italian Renaissance decorative tradition through a sculptureally strong architecture and refined artisanal execution. More than a simple piece of furniture, it is an authentic testimony of antique cabinetmaking, where every element reflects centuries of use, conservation, and appreciation by its owners. The piece features a rectangular top that hides a practical fold-out drawer conceived as a sewing box or storage compartment, a solution characteristic of certain domestic furniture intended for everyday tasks and private use. This ingenious design adds functionality without altering the purity of its exterior lines. Its most striking feature lies in the spectacular lyre structure, formed by trimmed legs and richly molded, with elegant undulating profiles and volutes inspired by the Renaissance ornamental repertoire. Both side structures are united by a sinuous chambrana of great visual richness that reinforces the stability of the ensemble and provides an attractive sense of movement. The overall composition blends architectural balance with decorative dynamism, qualities highly valued in Italian furniture with historical tradition. The wood, enriched by a warm patina developed over more than two centuries, preserves all the charm of antiquity. The surfaces show the natural traces of time, together with various historical repairs visible especially in some areas of the legs. Far from reducing the piece’s value, these interventions constitute an interesting material document of its long useful life and the care it has received from generation to generation. Likewise, evidence of former wood diseases can be observed, properly treated and stabilized, with the piece currently in a satisfactory state of conservation for its age. These traces form part of the furniture’s authenticity and are common in original eighteenth-century works that have survived to the present day. The quality of the carving, the elegance of the proportions, the uniqueness of its lyre structure, and the beauty of its patina make this table a standout collectible piece, ideal for historical interiors, libraries, studies, or environments decorated with European antique furniture. A magnificent example of eighteenth-century Italian craftsmanship, rich in character, history, and decorative presence, whose authenticity and noble aging can be clearly appreciated in every detail.
