A charming and highly decorative vintage Dutch coffee table or side table, handmade in the second half of the 20th century (c. 1960–1970). The tabletop is beautifully inlaid with a tableau of six polychrome (multicolored) ceramic tiles. Each tile is intricately decorated with an image of a historical rider or cavalryman on horseback, inspired by 17th- and 18th-century Old Dutch motifs. The tiles are framed with classic corner ornaments (ox heads/French lilies) and strongly recall the traditional crafts of renowned Frisian and Delftware pottery studios such as Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum. The sturdy wooden base features elegantly turned wooden legs, giving the piece a warm, rustic and classical appearance. Thanks to the fire- and water-resistant properties of the ceramic tableau, the top is exceptionally functional for daily use (free from rings). This item is in neat condition with signs of age appropriate wear.
