Things to know, - The "Vegvisir" translates as "beacon" or "signal", It consists of eight points representing the eight cardinal directions (north, south, east, west); each point represents a guide and protection, whichever direction one faces. In addition to being a navigation tool, the Vegvisir could also be used to protect against evil forces such as sea monsters or witches. Its powers were said to be so strong that even if lost at sea or in unknown territory, the wearer would always find the way home. The meaning of the Vegvísir compass in Norse mythology is closely linked to Thor, known as a protective god and the god of storms in other words, someone who fights chaos and restores order from disorder. This link between Thor and the végisir is important because it reinforces the idea that this symbol can offer protection against chaotic forces such as storms or other dangers at sea or during journeys to unknown lands. Moreover, since Thor is often depicted bearing a hammer called Mjölnir, which is said to symbolize strength and power, this further underscores the power of this symbol when used correctly. The compass "Veigvir" draws its roots from Nordic tradition, inspired by the legendary Vegvísir which literally means "path signal"—an ancient symbol intended to guide travelers through storms and the twists of life. Once used by Viking navigators to orient themselves in total darkness, the Vegvísir embodied protection, resilience, and the ability to find one’s path even in the most uncertain moments. Today, the compass "Veigvir" carries on this heritage by symbolizing the alliance between ancestral wisdom and modernity, inviting both external exploration and the quest for inner meaning, offering its wearer guidance, security, and inspiration on the path of life.
