SEURAT - Lot 272

SEURAT TERRASSE (Antoine). The World of Seurat. Paris, Henri Scrépel, “Les Carnets de Dessins” series, Diffusion Weber, [circa 1975]. Large square quarto, publisher’s cardboard binding with an illustrated dust jacket. Numerous reproductions of drawings. A monograph devoted to the graphic work of Georges Seurat, part of the “Les Carnets de Dessins” series, established and edited by Henri Scrépel. Antoine Terrasse particularly highlights Seurat’s extraordinary Conté pencil drawings, in which light seems to emerge from the very grain of the paper. Isolated figures, silhouettes, landscapes, and preparatory studies demonstrate the fundamental importance of drawing in the genesis of Neo-Impressionism. One of the most captivating volumes in the collection, thanks to the quality and coherence of the reproduced drawings. A fine copy; slight signs of wear on the dust jacket.
