Set of 3rd Lord Iveagh (Guinness Family) racing colours dated 1969, by D. Gilbert & Son, Newmarket, the maker's label inscribed by hand LORD IVEAGH, 1969, terracotta with black seams, collar and cuffs, quartered cap Arthur Francis Benjamin Guinness, 3rd Earl of Iveagh (1937–1992), was the chairman of the Guinness brewing empire. Away from his substantial business interests, horse racing and breeding was his passion. Apart from successes on the turf as an owner, he was deeply involved in the financing of the historic Kildangan Stud in Co. Kildare (later purchased by Sheikh Mohammed in 1986). The dating of 1969 in the label raises the prospect that these silks may well have been used on his champion Karabas who that year won major races including the Washington DC International ridden by Lester Piggott
