A pair of antique bronze Chinese temple guardian lions, also known as imperial guardian lions, Shishi-lions, or Foo-dogs. Since the introduction of the lion symbol from Indian culture, particularly through Buddhist symbolism, there have traditionally been statues of protective lions before Chinese imperial palaces, imperial tombs, government buildings, temples and the homes of government officials and the wealthy. It is believed that these statues have a powerful protective effect. Each statue is cast in three dimensions to display a powerful body with an elegant mane, full lips and almond-shaped eyes with carved pupils beneath softly arched eyebrows. Carefully packed and insured for shipping.
