ow available at auction from Second Vintage This classic 1960s Seiko Sportsmatic 5 Deluxe presents a compelling opportunity for collectors, distinguished by its exceptionally well-preserved black sunburst dial. Featuring the signature recessed crown at 4 o'clock and the distinctive date quickset pusher at 2 o'clock, this timepiece highlights the innovative design language and practical engineering of mid-century Japanese watchmaking. Brand: Seiko Model: Sportsmatic 5 Deluxe Reference Number: 7619-7010 Serial Number: 6504472 Movement: Automatic caliber 7619A, 25 jewels Dial: Black sunburst with applied silver-tone indices Case Size: 38 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless steel Production Year: 1966 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +15+18s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The dial is remarkably well preserved, featuring a striking black sunburst finish that remains clean with no visible major flaws or staining. Applied silver-tone indices provide excellent depth, complemented by crisp printed text throughout the surface. The dauphine style hands display light aging, with minor oxidation and spotting visible under magnification. Case and Crystal The stainless steel case displays honest wear, retaining a polished finish throughout with moderate scratches and scuffs visible on the flanks and lugs. Its edges remain reasonably defined. The watch features a smooth polished bezel exhibiting light scratches consistent with the overall case wear. A recessed crown is positioned at 4 o'clock alongside a dedicated date quickset pusher at 2 o'clock. The caseback features a distinctive dolphin engraving. The domed acrylic crystal exhibits minor surface scratches and dust, with no major cracks or chips present. Movement Powering the watch is the in-house Seiko caliber 7619A, a 25-jewel automatic movement. The mechanism presents a clean overall appearance, with minor scratches visible on the signed rotor. Mechanically, this caliber features a quickset date function operated via the dedicated 2 o'clock pusher, while the day display advances traditionally, as the movement was designed without manual winding capabilities. Timegrapher results indicate +15+18s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a black textured leather strap featuring white contrast stitching. The strap exhibits light signs of wear and pairs naturally with the dark dial. Condition Good vintage condition. The well-preserved black sunburst dial remains remarkably clean, while the dauphine hands show minor oxidation consistent with their age. The stainless steel case and smooth bezel display honest wear, with moderate scratches and scuffs visible on the polished surfaces. The domed acrylic crystal exhibits minor surface wear but no major damage. The automatic movement is running well, supported by strong timegrapher results. Dimensions The case measures 38 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Sportsmatic 5 Deluxe offers a highly attractive black sunburst dial configuration that is beautifully preserved. The distinctive dolphin caseback engraving and dedicated date pusher add excellent character to this classic 1960s Seiko. History Introduced during the mid-1960s, the Seiko Sportsmatic Deluxe line represented a refined step forward in the brand's automatic offerings. The caliber 7619 featured a dedicated date quickset pusher at 2 o'clock, a notable convenience for the era, while maintaining clean case lines achieved by recessing the crown at 4 o'clock. This specific crown placement became a signature design element for automatic Seikos of the 1960s, subtly emphasizing that the watch did not require manual winding. Today, these models remain highly appreciated for their reliable in-house movements and handsome mid-century styling. Payment and Shipping Payment must be completed within 1–3 days after purchase.
