This specific model represents a major historical milestone for the brand, offering enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire a highly significant mid-century timepiece with exceptional visual character. Brand: Seiko Model: Marvel Reference Number: 14029 Serial Number: 721911 Movement: Manual winding Dial: Vertical textured pattern with applied indices Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: 14K Gold Filled Production Year: 1957 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +60+62s/day, running in operational condition. Dial and Hands The dial features an intricate vertical textured pattern that remains beautifully preserved. Applied faceted indices and a gold-tone 'S' logo add excellent depth, while the printing remains crisp. The surface is very clean overall, with only minor microscopic dust or spotting visible under macro magnification. The gold-tone dauphine hands are original and show age-appropriate oxidation, spotting, and surface wear on the metal finish. Case and Crystal The 34 mm 14K gold-filled case features a thin integrated bezel and retains good lug shape, despite some softening of the edges. Moderate surface scratches are present throughout the case and bezel, consistent with honest vintage wear. Visible verdigris and tarnish have developed around the hidden caseback seating area. The plain, unsigned gold-tone crown shows some plating wear and oxidation. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial and remains clear with minor superficial scratches. Movement Inside is a manual winding Seikosha movement featuring 19 jewels and copper-colored plating. The caliber is generally clean, showing some minor surface marks and light oxidation on the steel parts. Recording +60+62s/day on the timegrapher, it is running in operational condition. Maintains the authentic mechanical character of the watch. Strap The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring contrast yellow stitching. It shows light wear and creasing, remaining in good condition. Condition Good vintage condition. The beautifully textured dial is excellently preserved, while the original hands show expected oxidation and wear. The gold-filled case displays moderate surface scratches and oxidation around the caseback rim. The movement is running in operational condition, supported by the timegrapher results, and the leather strap shows light wear. Dimensions The case measures 34 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Seiko Marvel is notable for its striking textured dial and historical importance. The combination of the applied 'S' logo, 14K gold-filled case, and mid-century aesthetic makes it a compelling addition for any enthusiast of early Japanese watchmaking. History The Seiko Marvel is considered a highly significant model in the brand's history, as it was their first wristwatch designed and manufactured entirely in-house. Introduced in the 1950s, the Marvel set a new standard for Seiko's production capabilities and paved the way for decades of mechanical innovation. Examples featuring intricate textured dials and gold-filled cases remain highly appreciated by collectors today. Payment and Shipping Payment must be completed within 1–3 days after purchase.
