Seiko - Lord Matic - No reserve price - 5606-5080 - Men - 1972

Presented for auction by Second Vintage This 1972 Seiko Lord Matic features a highly distinctive 1970s design, defined by its striking television-style square case and a vibrant two-tone green dial intersected by a lighter vertical center stripe. Paired with its original faceted crystal, this piece offers a bold aesthetic characteristic of Seiko's experimental era. Brand: Seiko Model: Lord Matic Reference Number: 5606-5080 Serial Number: 287241 Movement: Automatic, 25 jewels Dial: Two-tone green with vertical center stripe and Kanji day wheel Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless steel Production Year: 1972 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +12+16s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The vibrant two-tone green dial features a striking lighter vertical center stripe, creating a dynamic visual presence. The dial surface remains clean, displaying crisp printed text and a Kanji day wheel alongside the date window. Contrasting the well-preserved dial base, the applied gold-tone indices and matching day-date frame exhibit significant oxidation and tarnish. The gold-tone baton hands display heavy surface degradation that matches the condition of the dial indices, giving the watch's furniture a heavily patinated character against the bright green backdrop. Case and Crystal The stainless steel square case showcases honest vintage wear while preserving its geometric definition. The brushed front surfaces transition to polished flanks, with edges that remain reasonably defined. Moderate surface scratches and handling marks consistent with age are present throughout, though there are no major dents or deep gouges visible. The unsigned knurled crown shows light wear. The original faceted crystal, featuring a flat top and angled edges, completes the television-style aesthetic. The crystal shows some light surface scratches and minor edge wear visible in reflections, but remains free of major chips or cracks. Movement This timepiece is powered by the 25-jewel automatic caliber 5606A, operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The timegrapher recorded a rate of +12+16s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel link bracelet, complete with endlinks stamped XJB 031. The clasp bears the SEIKO LM signature. The bracelet displays moderate surface scratches and normal wear consistent with the case, and accommodates a maximum wrist size of 19cm. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch presents an honest, well-worn character with moderate surface scratches across the stainless steel case and original signed bracelet. The dial surface remains vibrant and clean, while the gold-tone hands and applied markers show significant, heavy oxidation and tarnish. The original faceted crystal displays light surface scratches and minor edge wear but remains structurally sound. The automatic movement is performing very strongly, supported by the recorded timegrapher result. Dimensions The case measures 34 mm (excluding the crown). Remarks This Lord Matic stands out through its distinctive green vertical-stripe dial and original faceted crystal. Complete with its original signed bracelet and a Kanji day wheel, it offers a compelling and authentic representation of 1970s Seiko design language. History Introduced in the late 1960s, the Lord Matic line was positioned as a premium offering just below the King Seiko and Grand Seiko tiers. The reference 5606-5080 is notable for its television-style square stainless steel case paired with a pronounced faceted mineral crystal, reflecting the bold design trends of the era. Powering these watches was the Seiko caliber 5606A, produced between 1968 and 1976. This movement provided reliable automatic winding and functionality, cementing the Lord Matic as a capable daily wearer during Seiko's highly regarded era of mechanical watchmaking.
