All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Sebastião Salgado (1944–2025) - Genesis. Kei, Southern Sudan. 2006
Beautiful photolithography by Sebastião Salgado created in 2006 in Sudan, during his epic eight-year-plus journey that culminated in his work “Genesis”. “Genesis” is a worldwide photographic quest in which the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado rediscovers places and people who, until then, had eluded the footprint of modern societies. Since 2004, he undertook more than thirty trips to the far reaches of the world to build a long-term photographic project on the environment, always shooting in black and white. He sailed oceans, climbed mountains, crossed deserts, observed animals, and approached Indigenous peoples, with the aim of sharing their environments and cultures. Traveling to the most remote corners, often under difficult conditions, Salgado shows us the beauty of the world’s most unknown parts. He also shows the need to preserve the planet and its beauty, which are today in danger. The exhibition of this work broke all known attendance records up to that moment, establishing Sebastião Salgado as one of the most acclaimed and famous photographers of our time. “In Genesis, I followed the romantic dream of wanting to find—and share—a primitive world that is far too often invisible and out of reach. (…) I simply wanted to show nature in its splendor wherever I could find it. I discovered it in infinite spaces of immense biological diversity that, it should be noted, cover almost half of the Earth's surface, in vast deserts, largely unexplored, in immense tropical or temperate forests, and in mountain ranges of breathtaking beauty. Discovering this still-intact world was one of the most enriching experiences of my life.” Sebastião Salgado Details: Title: Genesis.
