The first group depicts a young gentleman in a Directoire-style outfit: a tricorn hat adorned with ribbons and flowers, a lace jabot, a double-breasted waistcoat with gold buttons, a frock coat and a walking cane. Beside him a girl with a bonnet in hand and a bouquet of flowers. The second group, its pendant, depicts a lady in an Empire waist dress, with a wide-brimmed cap, a pouch purse, and the elegant gesture of lifting her skirt. She is accompanied by a boy in a pageboy suit. Both figures rest on rocky bases decorated with flower reliefs. The outfits are embellished with gold bead appliqués. The modeling quality is excellent, especially in the faces, finely painted, and in the lace details. The style and technique are typical of the Thuringian manufactories (Germany) active between 1890 and 1920.
