Sculpture, "Vrouw met hertje" - lengte 52 cm - 32 cm - Ceramic

Very large Art Deco statue in white crackled ceramic. The statue depicts an aristocratic lady with a fleeing stag or doe behind her. The combination of graceful women and deer is very typical for the Art Deco period because they symbolize the elegance and refinement of that time. What makes this statue special is that the front and back are equally important. At the back (where the deer is fully visible) the typical sleek Art Deco lines come into their own even more. The statue is by an unknown French sculptor and was made in one of the many French ceramic ateliers such as Saint Clément, Orchies, Longwy, … The craquelures are fine and regular, indicating good craftsmanship. The statue is in excellent vintage condition. There are no restorations and also no chips or hairline cracks that are often found in statues of that age. There are of course minute imperfections characteristic of pieces from this period. These imperfections are not flaws but evidence that this is an original piece from the Art Deco period.
